Photographer Margaret Hyde was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. Margaret is a travel photographer and was recently invited to Bhutan and Liberia as guests of both governments. Her photography has been featured in her own show in 2009 at Laddie John Dill’s studio in Santa Monica entitled, “Mindful Journeys,” as well as many others.
Hailing from a philanthropic legacy, Margaret’s family founded the Hyde Family Foundations (HFF). Both Margaret and HFF are also deeply involved with the National Civil Rights Museum as supporters and donors. The museum’s repository of artifacts symbolizing the heart of the nation and the birth of the Civil Rights Movement has become a national treasure.
Margaret takes an active role in her family’s dedication to service, justice and equality, which led to her decision to produce the Academy & Emmy nominated documentary short, “The Witness: From the Balcony of Room 306”, about the last days of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It is Margaret’s hope that the film will serve to educate others about the Civil Rights Movement and how they too can be a part of the dream. Her photography was prominently featured in this endeavor.
In addition being a filmmaker, she’s been a book publisher and author for many years. She first wrote a modern take on the Goldilocks tale called Dreadilocks and the Three Slugs followed by the popular Great Art for Kids series and the Mo’s Nose series of books about a dog who smells colors. Mo’s books incorporate a new scent technology of press-to-smell aromatherapy.
Margaret, her husband and her children live happily in Santa Monica, CA.
